The 100th Michigan Legislature is underway with many new faces in state government. Governor Gretchen Whitmer was sworn into office on January 1 and she is expected to present her FY 2019-20 budget recommendation to the legislature in early March.

There are also many newly elected legislators that were officially sworn into office. Recently, legislative committees were named with Senator Lana Theis named the Senate Education and Career Readiness Chair and Representative Pamela Hornberger named the House Education Chair. For the appropriations committees, Senator Wayne Schmidt will chair the Senate K-12 School Aid Appropriations Subcommittee and Representative Aaron Miller will chair the House K-12 School Aid Appropriations Subcommittee. The education policy committees are scheduled to meet:

  • Tuesdays at 9 a.m. – House Education Policy Committee
  • Tuesdays at Noon – Senate Education and Career Readiness Committee
