2021-2022 NWEA Virtual Coaching Cohort

“Why Coaching? Research indicates when coaching support and follow-up were provided after professional development, new skills were implemented 80-90% of the time.”

– Joyce and Showers, 1996, Fouts, 2003; Stinnett and Zenger, 2007.

Supporting Sustained Learning

In order to have an impact on student outcomes, all great leaders seek professional development for their staff. When choosing high quality professional development, one may ponder questions like:

  • How can we utilize our academic data to support our improvement goals?
  • How can we utilize our data to identify students’ learning loss and achievement gaps?
  • How can we increase our teacher’s capacity to deliver differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students?
  • How can we leverage data analysis to enhance our current teaching practices in moving from “good to great?”

We can provide an answer to all your questions – NWEA Virtual Coaching!

Here is what the participants last year said about the coaching experience:

NWEA Virtual Coaching

Our team is offering the opportunity to apply for 10 hours of virtual coaching with an NWEA certified coach for the 2021-2022 academic year. The customized coaching serves as support to assist with the utilization of data to impact teaching and learning. There are limited coaching packages available to our partner schools, and a timely submission of an application that demonstrates a strong interest and commitment will increase the likelihood that your school receives this high quality professional development.

Schools accepted for the virtual coaching program receive:

  1. All expenses paid for 10 hours of customized coaching with an NWEA certified coach for up to 12 staff (must include two members of the school’s leadership team).
  2. Ongoing support from the Center’s Academic Performance and Accountability team.

Outcomes

Participating schools will:

  • Increase expertise in systematically utilizing MAP Growth™ data instructionally to improve student achievement and growth.
  • Acquire skills to analyze MAP Growth data to flexibly group students for differentiated instruction and create responsive units or lessons.
  • Receive expert support with the creation of a sustainable action plan that clarifies academic goals, identifies success indicators and anticipates implementation approaches to increase student outcomes.

Expectations

To ensure success of the coaching services, the school leadership must commit to:

  1. Scheduling 10, one-hour, coaching sessions with the NWEA certified coach.
  2. One representative from the school leadership team attending each of the 10 coaching sessions, demonstration of active engagement with the NWEA coach and providing continuous support to teachers following the coaching sessions.
  3. All teaching staff utilizing MAP Growth data to deliver differentiated instruction.
  4. Development of an school-based action plan for utilizing data formatively from one data cycle to another data cycle. The action plan shall include measurable goals based on classroom observation data.
