Balance in School and Classroom Assessment

Take your team’s assessment literacy to a new level to drive academic performance.

Program Overview

Our team is offering this exciting opportunity to learn about balanced assessment systems. Time will be spent creating actionable plans related to best practices in assessment literacy. Sessions will be held each month with most sessions in a virtual format. The kick-off session in August and the wrap up in March will be in person. The date, location, and content for each session are outlined below. Travel support will be provided where indicated.

The content presentations will be led by the following Center team members:

Audience and Expectations

Team of up to five staff members (must include at least two members of the school’s leadership team which may include school leaders, deans, curriculum directors, assessment coordinators, instructional coaches, etc.).
Content will be most impactful for classroom teachers, assessment coordinators, and leadership team members.
By committing to participate in the series, your school team is agreeing to attend all sessions listed below.

Outcomes

Participating schools will:

Understand the necessity of clear academic learning goals, aligned classroom-level learning targets, and success criteria used by students and teachers, and their relationship to the development and use of sound assessments.
Understand the attributes of a comprehensive and balanced assessment system that includes large-scale assessment, school- or district-level assessment, and classroom-level summative and formative assessment, ensuring multiple measures of all valued learning goals.
Understand the standards of quality for student assessment and ensure that these standards are met.
Understand sound grading practices and work to ensure all students receive meaningful, accurate grades.

Participation in Event Series

Participation in the entire series of events can earn attendees up to 22 SCECHs.
